Today marks the end of my 10th year in full-time private practice, my 10th year with a single-minded focus on helping people talk things out in their important relationships at work and home. It also marks, almost to the exact day, four years of blogging on the same subject.
Back in 2002, when blogs were still mostly associated with teenage angst and personal journals, I though I’d try out this new-fangled thing as a business person. I had no readers at all.
I was too busy to justify continuing something that had 0 readers, so I let it alone for a while. Periodically I came back to it, sure there was a good use for a blog if I could only figure out what it was and how to best tap it. In 2004 I thought I’d figured it out and in 2005 I made the commitment to use this site for sharing what I think I know and inviting others (particularly women) to step up to the important conversations in our lives.
In 10 years my practice has also evolved. I began my work serving exclusively colleges and universities, since that was the arena I knew best. Most of my work then was workplace mediation, conflict management consulting, and training. Over time, I added complex, high-conflict family work to my practice, as well as support of small businesses and environmental organizations. Today I work primarily with working women as a coach, and with higher education and other organizations as a mediator, consultant, and trainer.
I rise each day with excitement about what’s ahead. Thanks for being part of it, particularly those of you early readers who stuck with me while I figured out what this site should do best. You went for many a ride down dead-end streets while I found my voice in this new medium!
In honor of my business birthday, throughout the month of November I’m going to post a retrospect of my most-read, most-appreciated, and most-controversial articles from the past few years. I’ll also share my personal favorites with you.
Thanks for the honor of your visits,
